Sidemount Diver

From its origins and development in cave diving, Sidemount is rapidly growing in popularity in recreational diving. When redundancy becomes a consideration, more and more divers are switching from using back mounted twin cylinders, to a Sidemount configuration.

The benefits of this configuration include:

• Improved redundancy over single tank diving.

• Easier problem solving – access to the tank valves and first stages is massively improved.

• More streamlining: the cylinders tucked along the divers side reduces their profile, and good positioning allows for better trim in the water.

• Tanks can be removed/replaced in the water allowing them to be passed to/from the surface.

• No tanks & manifolds hitting the back of your head.

• Transporting individual cylinders reduces loading stress compared to manifolded cylinders.

The RAID Sidemount course teaches students to use the equipment and techniques specifically designed for this type of diving. From kit setup, through buoyancy, trim and streamlining, to gas management and problem solving. This course will be intensive and is not designed as a simple introduction. Students will learn best practices, emergency drills, and problem solving underwater.

The equipment we use to do the course:
• Euro Steel Sidemount Tanks
• Apeks award winning XTX50 Sidemount Regulators
• XDeep Stealth 2.0 Tec sidemount harness & wing
• XDeep cargo pouch with redundancy equipment
