Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Specialty
A Delayed Surface Marker Buoy (DSMB) is a pretty vital piece of safety kit. It helps the dive boat to keep track of your whereabouts and alerts any surface traffic in your area to your presence. It also makes you more visible at the surface in an emergency, and some can work well as a rescue device. Many dive boat operators now ask that you have proof of experience with DSMBs in order to dive with them. It is such an important piece of kit that it should be a part of every diver’s equipment.
In this course you will learn about the different types of Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) available, and their benefits and drawbacks. You will learn preparation of, along with how and when to deploy reels, lines, and SMBs for use, as well as potential risks and hazard management.
